How to Improve Listening Skill

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

A lot of students have some problems with learning English. I remember when I first studied abroad; I didn’t know how to learn English either. Luckily, I found some kind friends from several different countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. Their English was extremely good. They never laughed at me because of my poor English, on the contrary, they told me how to improve my English.
To improve my listening skills, they suggested that I listen to the radio. Of course, I didn’t understand what they meant at first. I doubted whether it was a good method or not. Then I asked my friend and she said: In the beginning, you should guess what topic they are talking about. It is not necessary to know everything that they are saying on the radio. But in the second stage, you can begin to understand the general content. For example, after listening to the advertisement, you can try to guess what kind of product they are selling. After several attempts, you will soon discover that you are slowly beginning to understand more and more.
Anyway, always remember practice makes perfect.
